october 3│day 2

Cheers! We made it! 17 hours in the air/ports and 4.5 hours in transit with 100 lbs of luggage... apiece (don't judge! It's 3 months!) After a great night sleep with a little help from our friendSleepAid, we set off on our first luggage-free adventure to the University and Towne Center in Colchester. More on the university tomorrow, but the town is adorable! It's the oldest town in England, full of old churches, cute shops, pubs, and a castle! We visited the Colchester Castle Museum, and for a couple history nerds like us, it was an awesome afternoon! FYI: It was built by William the Conquerer in 1076 after the Battle of Hastings in 1066!

Inside the Colchester Castle Museum
Mosaic
Outside the castle
Prison. They had a really humbling video about the Christians that were kept here before they were burned at the stake. AND it included one of my fav quotes, "The blood of martyrs is the seed of the Gospel."

We learned to tie a toga!! But not well, obviously...
A 60's throwback. Random Beatles' Tribute in the middle of a medieval castle...

St. James Anglican Church
Most of these tombstones were worn down, but the earliest ones we could read were from the 1850's
A gravestone... with Heather's initials... pretty creepy

DAN!!

Heather's grandpa's first job was at Woolworths, but they got bought out in the US years ago. She literally freaked out when she saw one, "WE HAAAAVVEEE TO GET A PICTURE!!!!"

Towne Centre... I'm so English... check out those extra "e's"
Little garden behind the castle
Dinner was fish n' chips... Delish!! (PS: You could get "mushy" peas or "garden" peas... guess which is which....

Love it! So stoked for you both.

Don't care for fish and chips myself. You need to try a curry though.

And read as many British authors as you can while you're there. You'll appreciate them in a whole new way.
